Product Description

Our Heavy and Light Pacific models closely follow the original USRA designs. Railroad-specific variations are not modeled on these locomotives, ensuring they remain true to the standard USRA prototypes. Many Pacifics were paired with the same 10,000-gallon tender used behind USRA Mikados, and our models include this 10,000-gallon tender for added authenticity.

In addition to prototypically accurate USRA paint schemes, we are also offering our USRA prototype in attractive liveries inspired by similar Pacifics operated by other railroads, along with several striking fantasy schemes for added variety.

These models are also offered in our Stealth Series. Each Stealth model includes a Next18 decoder interface and a factory-installed speaker, allowing modelers to easily install their preferred aftermarket sound decoder.

RBMN and the Light Pacific 4-6-2

The Reading Blue Mountain & Northern Railroad, commonly known today as Reading & Northern, is a regional railroad based in eastern Pennsylvania. Founded in 1983, the railroad operates former Reading Company and Central Railroad of New Jersey lines, serving industries throughout Pennsylvania’s coal regions. Over the years, Reading & Northern has earned a strong reputation for preserving classic railroad heritage while continuing to grow as a successful freight carrier.

Reading & Northern is well known among railfans for its steam excursion program and operation of historic passenger equipment. While the railroad is most famous for larger steam locomotives like Reading T-1 4-8-4 No. 2102, the classic 4-6-2 “Pacific” type represents the kind of locomotive that once powered passenger trains throughout Pennsylvania and the Northeast. Light Pacific locomotives were prized for their speed, smooth ride, and ability to handle passenger trains efficiently during the golden age of steam railroading.

Reading & Northern’s modern passenger appearance draws inspiration from the classic Reading Company and other historic northeastern railroads. The railroad’s excursion equipment and locomotives often feature deep green, yellow, and gold colors that reflect traditional Reading heritage while giving the railroad a clean and recognizable identity. Today, Reading & Northern has become one of the most respected heritage and excursion railroads in the country, blending modern freight operations with preservation of classic railroading traditions.
