Description

A Limited Edition InterMountain Railway Company Evans 100 Ton Steel Coil Car painted for freelance model railroad Virginian and Ohio!

Jim Hediger’s Ohio Southern is a great freelance model railroad with decades of history.  Many magazine articles were written about the Ohio Southern.  Perhaps Jim’s tenure as editor for Model Railroader Magazine helped to bring this gem to light.

The Ohio Southern is known for operations and its double deck, double track design.  The showpiece industry on the railroad was a very large model of Jim’s freelance Huron Steel (maybe a future Home Shops car?), so steel coils were an important commodity shipped by the Ohio Southern.

Inspiration for the design of the Home Shops Ohio Southern coil car car from several conversations with Jim before his passing.  The blueprint for the Ohio Southern was the prototype Detroit Toledo and Ironton (DT&I) Railroad.  The DT&I had a series of coil cars that were yellow with black hoods.  This DT&I car was the basis for our Ohio Southern offering.

The built date for this car is July 1968 and this model represents the car in its “as delivered” appearance.

The InterMountain HO scale Evans 100 Ton Steel Car Includes:

  • Angled or Rounded Hoods per Road Name Specification
  • Metal Coil Loads for Extra Weight
  • Sharp Painting and Lettering
  • Separately Applied Grab Irons
  • Multiple Road Numbers
