The Bethgon Coalporter is a modern rotary dump coal gondola built by Freightcar America. The Bethgon is built of aluminum to lower the car's empty weight to about 21 tons thus increasing the amount of coal that can be carried. One of the most important parts of the Bethgon is the longitudinal tub floor design, which allows for an extra 18 tons of coal over earlier flat bottom designs. This also lowers the car's center of gravity for better stability.
