Product Overview

By the beginning of World War II, many of the classic USRA double-sheathed boxcars and similar designs were being rebuilt with steel sides. Additional rebuilding continued through the late 1940s and early 1950s, and by late 1948 nearly 14,000 of the original 24,500 USRA double-sheathed cars had been rebuilt. These conversions displayed considerable variation in details such as ends, doors, and underframes, creating an interesting family of freight cars with roots in an earlier era but extended service lives. Atlas recreates these steel-side rebuilds in its Master line with prototype-specific details and a highly detailed ready-to-run body.

Why We Love This Car

There's a lot to like about a freight car that visibly tells the story of railroads extending the usefulness of older equipment.
