The SD26 traces its heritage to EMD's SD24, a 2,400-horsepower locomotive powered by a turbocharged 567D-3 prime mover and riding on a C-C wheel arrangement. More than 220 SD24 locomotives were produced between July 1958 and March 1963, with major fleets purchased by Chicago Burlington & Quincy, Santa Fe, Southern, and Union Pacific.

This Atlas Master Gold release represents the Santa Fe configuration with a low nose, one-piece window arrangement, and road-specific detailing. The factory-installed ESU LokSound decoder adds full DCC control and a deep selection of operating sounds, giving this colorful locomotive the performance and realism to match its distinctive appearance.

From the SD24 to the Santa Fe SD26

With over 220 units produced by EMD between July 1958 and March 1963, the SD-24 locomotive generated a total of 2,400 hp with its turbocharged 567D-3 prime mover and C-C wheel arrangement.

Santa Fe's rebuilt SD26 fleet extended the usefulness of the original SD24 design while retaining the rugged six-axle profile that made these locomotives well suited to demanding freight assignments.
