Illinois Central Gulf
Illinois Central Gulf was formed in 1972 through the merger of the Illinois Central Railroad and the Gulf, Mobile & Ohio Railroad, creating a major north-south system stretching from the Midwest to the Gulf Coast.
The railroad was known for its bold orange-and-white paint scheme, a dramatic departure from the older Illinois Central look and one of the most recognizable liveries of the 1970s and 1980s. ICG locomotives could be found switching industries, handling local freight, and working yards across a wide territory.
