Product Overview
The EMD F-series played a pivotal role in the transition from steam to diesel power, forever changing American railroading. Originally designed for freight service, these locomotives quickly proved their versatility. While most F-units operated in freight service, many were also assigned to short-distance passenger trains. Some railroads even equipped select units with steam generators, allowing them to handle long-distance passenger service as well. In total, 7,642 F-series locomotives were built, serving on railroads across North America and becoming some of the most recognizable diesels ever produced.
This production run features several fan favorite paint schemes, this includes Chesapeake and Ohio, Norfolk Southern's executive F units in their renumbered appearance, Rock Island, and Western Maryland Circus Scheme.
About The F7
The EMD F7 is a 1,500 horsepower diesel locomotive built by General Motors' Electro-Motive Division between 1949 and 1953. The F7 was EMD's fourth model in the line of F-unit locomotives, and was by far the best-selling cab unit of all time. The F7 primarily differed from the F3 in internal equipment, but there were some noticeable external changes such as the grills and the dynamic brake hatches. F7's operated in both passenger and freight service, and many of them remained in service for decades.
