Product Overview

The Broadway Limited Imports EMD GP35 brings one of EMD's most recognizable transitional-era road-switchers to HO scale with premium detailing, road-specific accuracy, and the advanced sound and control capabilities of the Paragon4 system. BNSF #2910 represents a former GP35 rebuilt to GP39-2 standards and presented in a modern operating appearance, making it an excellent choice for contemporary freight layouts and modelers interested in long-lived, heavily rebuilt diesel power.

Electro-Motive Division introduced the GP35 during the mid-1960s as a four-axle, general-purpose locomotive powered by the 16-cylinder EMD 567D3A prime mover. Rated at 2,500 horsepower, the GP35 represented an important step in the evolution of EMD's road-switcher lineup and helped bridge the gap between earlier first-generation diesels and the successful second-generation models that followed.

More than 1,300 GP35 locomotives were produced for railroads across the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Their flexible four-axle design made them useful in manifest freight, local service, transfer assignments, and mixed locomotive consists. As the original units aged, many railroads rebuilt and modernized them rather than immediately retiring the dependable platforms.

BNSF #2910 reflects that rebuild tradition. Although rooted in the classic GP35 design, the locomotive's GP39-2 classification and modern appearance represent the extensive mechanical and electrical upgrades applied during its service life. Rebuilt units such as this allowed railroads to extend the usefulness of proven four-axle locomotives while improving reliability and adapting them for continued local, yard, and secondary freight assignments.

Formed in 1995 through the merger of Burlington Northern and the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe, BNSF Railway inherited one of the most varied locomotive fleets in North America. Alongside newer high-horsepower road power, rebuilt four-axle locomotives remained valuable for assignments requiring flexibility, good visibility, and reliable low-speed performance. BNSF #2910 brings that distinctive combination of historic EMD heritage and modern railroad service to an HO scale roster.

Broadway Limited Imports has equipped this model with newly tooled, road-specific components selected to reflect the prototype accurately. Combined with premium paint, separately applied details, independently controllable lighting, a precision drive mechanism, and Paragon4 sound, this GP35-based GP39-2 is designed to look impressive on display and perform smoothly in regular layout operation.
