Product Overview

The Broadway Limited Imports EMD GP35 brings one of the most recognizable transitional-era road diesels to HO scale with premium detailing, road-specific accuracy, and the advanced sound and control capabilities of the Paragon4 system. Conrail #2277 wears the railroad's iconic blue-and-white identity, making it an excellent choice for Northeast freight layouts, transition-era diesel collections, and modelers recreating Conrail's diverse early locomotive fleet.

Electro-Motive Division introduced the GP35 during the mid-1960s as a four-axle, general-purpose locomotive powered by the 16-cylinder EMD 567D3A prime mover. Rated at 2,500 horsepower, the GP35 represented an important step in the evolution of EMD's road-switcher lineup and helped bridge the gap between earlier first-generation diesels and the highly successful locomotives that followed.

More than 1,300 GP35 locomotives were produced for railroads across the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Their flexible four-axle design made them suitable for manifest freight, local service, transfer assignments, and mixed locomotive consists. The type could be found working for many of North America's best-known railroads, giving it a broad operational history across multiple regions and eras.

Conrail was formed in 1976 to consolidate and revitalize several financially troubled railroads in the Northeast and Midwest. Its inherited locomotive fleet included a wide variety of EMD and GE models from predecessor carriers, making mixed consists and varied body details a defining part of early Conrail operations. GP35 locomotives such as #2277 provided useful four-axle power for road freight, local assignments, transfers, and secondary service as the railroad worked to modernize its system.

Broadway Limited Imports has equipped this model with newly tooled, road-specific components selected to reflect the prototype accurately. Combined with premium paint, separately applied details, independently controllable lighting, a precision drive mechanism, and Paragon4 sound, this GP35 is designed to look impressive on display and perform smoothly in regular layout service.
