Product Overview
The Broadway Limited Imports EMD GP35 brings one of EMD's most recognizable transitional-era road diesels to HO scale with premium detailing, road-specific accuracy, and the advanced sound and control capabilities of the Paragon4 system. Union Pacific #761 is finished in its 1980s appearance, making it an excellent choice for modelers recreating late first-generation diesel operations, transitional motive-power fleets, and classic Western freight service.
Electro-Motive Division introduced the GP35 during the mid-1960s as a four-axle, general-purpose locomotive powered by the 16-cylinder EMD 567D3A prime mover. Rated at 2,500 horsepower, the GP35 represented an important step in the evolution of EMD's road-switcher lineup and helped bridge the gap between earlier first-generation diesels and the highly successful second-generation locomotive designs that followed.
More than 1,300 GP35 locomotives were produced for railroads across the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Their flexible four-axle design made them suitable for manifest freight, local service, transfer assignments, and operation in mixed locomotive consists. Their versatility helped many units remain in service long after newer locomotive models entered railroad fleets.
Union Pacific developed one of North America's largest and most recognizable diesel fleets, using road-switchers such as the GP35 across a broad system stretching throughout the western United States. By the 1980s, locomotives of this generation could still be found working alongside newer EMD and GE power in secondary road service, local freight assignments, transfers, and other duties that benefited from their compact size and dependable performance.
The 1980s appearance of UP #761 reflects a period when classic EMD road-switchers remained an active part of the railroad's evolving motive-power roster. Union Pacific's famous Armour Yellow, Harbor Mist Gray, and red accents give the locomotive an instantly recognizable identity, while its GP35 profile adds authentic variety to a period freight consist.
Broadway Limited Imports has equipped this model with newly tooled, road-specific components selected to reflect the prototype accurately. Combined with premium paint, separately applied details, independently controllable lighting, a precision drive mechanism, and Paragon4 sound, this GP35 is designed to look impressive on display and perform smoothly in regular layout service.
