Product Description

Our Heavy and Light Pacific models closely follow the original USRA designs. Railroad-specific variations are not modeled on these locomotives, ensuring they remain true to the standard USRA prototypes. Many Pacifics were paired with the same 10,000-gallon tender used behind USRA Mikados, and our models include this 10,000-gallon tender for added authenticity.

In addition to prototypically accurate USRA paint schemes, we are also offering our USRA prototype in attractive liveries inspired by similar Pacifics operated by other railroads, along with several striking fantasy schemes for added variety.

These models are also offered in our Stealth Series. Each Stealth model includes a Next18 decoder interface and a factory-installed speaker, allowing modelers to easily install their preferred aftermarket sound decoder.

Milwaukee Road and the Light Pacific 4-6-2

The Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul & Pacific Railroad—better known as the Milwaukee Road—was one of America’s best-known Midwestern railroads. Founded in 1847, the railroad expanded from Chicago across the Midwest and eventually to the Pacific Northwest. The Milwaukee Road became famous for fast passenger service, streamlined trains, and its colorful Hiawatha fleet.

Milwaukee Road relied heavily on 4-6-2 “Pacific” locomotives for passenger service during the steam era. These Light Pacifics were ideal for hauling fast passenger trains across the relatively flat Midwest, offering a strong balance of speed, efficiency, and smooth operation. They regularly handled regional passenger trains and helped maintain the railroad’s reputation for dependable high-speed service before the arrival of diesel locomotives.

The famous “Chippewa” paint scheme was introduced as part of Milwaukee Road’s effort to modernize its passenger image. Featuring bold orange, maroon, and black colors, the scheme gave trains a sleek and recognizable appearance that stood out across the Midwest. Closely associated with the railroad’s passenger operations in Wisconsin and Minnesota, the Chippewa colors became one of Milwaukee Road’s most iconic and memorable liveries of the streamlined era.
