Product Description

Our Heavy and Light Pacific models closely follow the original USRA designs. Railroad-specific variations are not modeled on these locomotives, ensuring they remain true to the standard USRA prototypes. Many Pacifics were paired with the same 10,000-gallon tender used behind USRA Mikados, and our models include this 10,000-gallon tender for added authenticity.

In addition to prototypically accurate USRA paint schemes, we are also offering our USRA prototype in attractive liveries inspired by similar Pacifics operated by other railroads, along with several striking fantasy schemes for added variety.

These models are also offered in our Stealth Series. Each Stealth model includes a Next18 decoder interface and a factory-installed speaker, allowing modelers to easily install their preferred aftermarket sound decoder.

Union Pacific and the Light Pacific 4-6-2

Union Pacific used 4-6-2 “Pacific” locomotives extensively for passenger service during the early 20th century. These Light Pacifics were well suited for hauling fast passenger trains across the railroad’s long western routes, offering a dependable balance of speed and efficiency. They regularly handled regional passenger trains and secondary mainline services before larger steam locomotives and diesel power gradually took over.

The 4-6-2 wheel arrangement became one of the most successful passenger locomotive designs of the steam era, and Union Pacific operated them throughout much of its expanding system. Their smooth ride, reliable performance, and ability to maintain speed made them an important part of Union Pacific passenger operations for many years.
