Product Overview

Instruction and Exhibit Cars were among the most distinctive passenger cars operated by North American railroads. Unlike conventional coaches or sleepers, these specialized cars were created for highly specific educational and outreach roles.

Instruction cars were used primarily for employee training, giving railroad personnel the opportunity to learn about equipment, operating procedures, safety practices, and the handling of hazardous materials. Exhibit cars served a more public-facing role, carrying traveling displays that highlighted railroad history, safety awareness, technology, and employment opportunities.

Because many prototype instruction and exhibit cars were individually converted and effectively one-of-a-kind, Broadway Limited has adapted its modified 80-foot coach tooling originally developed for the 1947 American Freedom Train. The result captures the look and spirit of these unusual cars while providing modelers with an accessible way to represent this fascinating part of railroad operations.

Whether used in a railroad business train, displayed at a special event, spotted alongside a depot, or added to a passenger-car collection, these models bring an uncommon and conversation-starting piece of railroad history to the layout.
