Product Overview

The EMD SD70ACe represents the modern evolution of the successful SD70MAC, developed to meet increasingly stringent emissions standards while continuing to deliver the power required for demanding freight service. Powered by a 16-710-G3C-T2 prime mover producing 4,300 horsepower, the SD70ACe has become a familiar sight in heavy freight service across North America and beyond. More than 2,000 SD70ACe locomotives and related variants have been produced.

The SD70ACe has also become well known among railfans for the many distinctive commemorative and heritage paint schemes applied to members of the fleet. Union Pacific introduced six Heritage locomotives honoring predecessor railroads in 2005, while Norfolk Southern unveiled a fleet of commemorative locomotives for its 30th anniversary in 2012, including ten SD70ACes numbered 1065 through 1074. Other special locomotives have honored veterans, first responders, essential workers, and important moments in railroad history.
