Product Overview

Introduced in 1981, the Amfleet II arrived during the EMD F40PH's long tenure in Amtrak service. Sometimes affectionately called the “Amtube” by enthusiasts because of its distinctive rounded form, the Amfleet II was developed specifically with longer-distance passenger service in mind. Larger windows and more comfortable seating differentiated the cars from the earlier Amfleet I while their single-level design retained the versatility needed for routes where taller Superliner equipment was not practical. This Kato set brings together an Amfleet II Lounge and Amtrak baggage car in the memorable Phase III scheme, making it an excellent addition to a period Amtrak consist.
