Product Overview

Rapido’s HO scale MLW RS-23 delivers the rugged personality of a classic Canadian road-switcher with premium-level detail and smooth DCC/Sound operation. This Kara Terminal #919 Home Shops Exclusive version combines Rapido’s excellent RS-23 tooling with a distinctive modern shortline-style appearance that immediately stands out on the layout. Equipped with a heavy die-cast frame, road-specific details, photo-etched grilles, full cab interior, metal grab irons, and Rapido’s MoPower capacitor system, this locomotive is built for both outstanding operation and collector-grade presentation.

MLW RS-23 Locomotive

The Montreal Locomotive Works RS-23 was developed as a compact but capable road-switcher built around the dependable ALCO 251c prime mover. Sharing much of its design heritage with the S-13 switcher series, the RS-23 combined MLW styling with road-oriented trucks, making it well suited for branchline service, industrial operations, transfer work, and light freight assignments.

The RS-23 became especially appealing to shortlines and industrial operators because of its manageable size, strong pulling capability, and distinctive MLW appearance. Rapido’s HO scale model captures those qualities with highly refined tooling, accurate Canadian-style truck options, premium lighting and sound features, and a level of road-specific detail that makes the locomotive feel authentic from every angle.
