MLW RS-23 Locomotive

The Montreal Locomotive Works RS-23 was designed as a compact but versatile road-switcher powered by the dependable ALCO 251c prime mover. Closely related to the S-13 switcher family, the RS-23 featured road-oriented trucks that gave it additional flexibility for branchline assignments, industrial switching, transfer service, and light freight operations.

The RS-23 developed a reputation as a practical locomotive with a lot of character, particularly among smaller railroads and industrial operators. Rapido’s HO scale model captures that personality beautifully with accurate MLW proportions, premium road-specific detailing, refined handrails and underbody components, and a sound package recorded from a real S-13 locomotive for an especially authentic operating experience.

The bold appearance paired with Rapido’s premium tooling creates a locomotive that feels unique without losing the rugged MLW identity enthusiasts love. The Home Shops collaboration adds even more appeal, giving the release an enthusiast-driven exclusivity that makes it feel truly special.
