Finished in BNSF Railway’s iconic orange-and-black “Heritage III” paint scheme, the ET44AC represents the next generation of modern western railroading. Formed in 1995 through the merger of Burlington Northern and the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railway, BNSF operates one of the largest freight rail networks in North America, spanning more than 32,000 route miles across the western United States.

BNSF was one of the earliest major railroads to embrace GE’s Evolution Series locomotives and continues to rely heavily on GEVO power for high-priority intermodal trains, unit grain service, coal traffic, and general freight operations. The ET44AC Tier 4 locomotives were introduced as part of the railroad’s push toward improved fuel efficiency and lower emissions while maintaining the massive horsepower needed for transcontinental freight service.
