Norfolk Southern

Norfolk Southern is one of America’s premier eastern railroads, operating a vast freight network across 22 states and serving many of the nation’s largest industrial centers, ports, and intermodal hubs. Officially formed in 1982 through the merger of Norfolk & Western and Southern Railway, Norfolk Southern carries forward a rich railroading heritage that stretches back more than a century.

The railroad is especially well known among railfans for its striking black locomotive paint scheme featuring the iconic white “horsehead” logo.
