Product Description

WalthersMainline takes the hard work out of modeling one of the most popular prototype diesels ever, with the EMD GP9 Phase II (sometimes referred to as the Phase 2) with Chopped Short Hood in HO Scale! Typical of railroad rebuilds from the 1960s on that are still going strong today, they're nicely detailed, and equipped with the proven power of a WalthersProto(R) drive. Perfect for railroads big or small.

Precision National and the GP9

Precision National Corporation was a private freight car leasing and transportation company that became well known throughout the 1970s and 1980s for supplying railcars to industries across North America. Its colorful and highly recognizable freight cars could often be seen in lumber, paper, agricultural, and general freight service moving across a wide variety of railroads. Precision National helped support shippers that needed flexible freight car availability without owning large private fleets themselves, making the company a familiar name in modern railroading during the era.

The EMD GP9 locomotive was commonly associated with industrial and regional freight operations during the same period that Precision National equipment was widespread across the rail network. Many railroads and shortlines operating GP9s handled leased Precision National freight cars in local service, branchline operations, and switching assignments. Rebuilt “chopped nose” GP9 locomotives became especially popular for industrial and secondary freight service thanks to their improved visibility, reliability, and ability to continue hauling modern freight traffic long after their original construction in the 1950s.
