Product Description
WalthersMainline takes the hard work out of modeling one of the most popular prototype diesels ever, with the EMD GP9 Phase II (sometimes referred to as the Phase 2) with Chopped Short Hood in HO Scale! Typical of railroad rebuilds from the 1960s on that are still going strong today, they're nicely detailed, and equipped with the proven power of a WalthersProto(R) drive. Perfect for railroads big or small.
RJ Corman and the GP9
RJ Corman Railroad Group was founded in 1973 by Richard J. Corman and grew from a small rail service company into one of the most respected shortline and railroad service operators in North America. Headquartered in Kentucky, the company expanded through the acquisition and operation of numerous shortline railroads across several states while also providing derailment recovery, track construction, and rail logistics services. Known for its bright red locomotives and strong customer-focused operations, RJ Corman became a major success story in modern shortline railroading.
The EMD GP9 locomotive became an important part of RJ Corman’s locomotive roster thanks to its durability, versatility, and low operating costs. Many of the railroad’s GP9s were rebuilt from older Class I railroad units and continued serving in local freight, yard switching, and branchline assignments well into the modern era. Several units featured chopped noses for improved crew visibility, giving the classic 1,750-horsepower locomotives a more modern appearance while extending their useful service life across RJ Corman’s expanding regional railroad network.
