Product Overview
Introduced in 1992 and built through 2004, the EMD SD70M was a later modified version of the SD70 platform, identified by its wide nose and North American Safety Cab. The design became a familiar sight on railroads across North America, combining modern crew protection, strong performance, and the reliability expected from EMD's 70-series locomotives.
This WalthersMainline model is based on the Phase I version of the SD70M and includes prototype-appropriate details such as the correct Safety Cab, flush radiators, road-specific HTCR trucks, a brass Nathan K5 horn, detailed walkways, and a 5,000-gallon fuel tank with road-specific details.
Factory-equipped with ESU Sound & DCC, this model is ready for operation on either DCC or compatible DC-powered layouts. Combined with the same powerful drive architecture used in WalthersProto locomotives, the SD70M delivers smooth operation, strong pulling performance, and the presence expected from a modern six-axle road locomotive.
