Prototype History

Introduced in 2005 to comply with tougher emission standards, and more commonly known among railfans and modelers as GEVOs, these powerful locomotives quickly became some of the most popular diesels in North America. Designated as the ES44 Evolution Series, prototype variations include both DC and AC traction versions, along with optional center idler axles, steerable trucks, and high-adhesion configurations depending on customer requirements.
