Introduced in the late 1960s especially for lumber service, the 56' Thrall All-Door Boxcar from WalthersProto(R) makes a unique and colorful addition to HO freight operations. Designed to protect weather-sensitive building materials and simplify loading and unloading, the design featured large sliding side doors for easy access, and many remained in service into the early 2000s.

Ashley, Drew & Northern Railroad traces its roots to the timber-rich regions of southern Arkansas, where it served lumber mills, paper plants, and local industries with dependable shortline rail service for decades. Known for handling forest products and connecting rural shippers to larger rail networks, the railroad became an important transportation link for the region’s economy. As the forest products industry evolved, the Ashley, Drew & Northern utilized specialized freight equipment like the 56' Thrall All-Door Boxcar to efficiently transport paper products, lumber, plywood, and other bulky commodities that required quick loading and unloading.
