Introduced in the late 1960s especially for lumber service, the 56' Thrall All-Door Boxcar from WalthersProto(R) makes a unique and colorful addition to HO freight operations. Designed to protect weather-sensitive building materials and simplify loading and unloading, the design featured large sliding side doors for easy access, and many remained in service into the early 2000s.

BC Hydro, the provincial electric utility of British Columbia, has long relied on rail transportation to support major infrastructure and industrial projects throughout the rugged Pacific Northwest. Rail service played an important role in moving construction materials, transformers, equipment, and forest products tied to the province’s growing hydroelectric network and resource economy. To handle large shipments of paper goods, lumber products, and other bulky commodities, BC Hydro utilized versatile freight equipment such as the 56' Thrall All-Door Boxcar. Its full-length opening side doors allowed for efficient loading and unloading of oversized cargo while protecting shipments from the harsh weather conditions common across western Canada.
