Introduced in the late 1960s especially for lumber service, the 56' Thrall All-Door Boxcar from WalthersProto(R) makes a unique and colorful addition to HO freight operations. Designed to protect weather-sensitive building materials and simplify loading and unloading, the design featured large sliding side doors for easy access, and many remained in service into the early 2000s.

Canfor and the 56' Thrall Boxcar

Canfor, short for Canadian Forest Products Ltd., has been one of Canada’s leading producers of lumber, pulp, and paper products since its founding in British Columbia in 1938. With mills and forestry operations spread across western Canada and the southern United States, the company has relied heavily on rail transportation to move finished wood products to domestic and international markets. To support these high-volume shipments, Canfor utilized specialized freight equipment such as the 56' Thrall All-Door Boxcar, which was ideal for transporting lumber, plywood, wallboard, and other forest products. The car’s wide-opening side doors allowed forklifts quick access for loading large bundled shipments while keeping valuable cargo protected from weather during transit.
