Introduced in the late 1960s especially for lumber service, the 56' Thrall All-Door Boxcar from WalthersProto(R) makes a unique and colorful addition to HO freight operations. Designed to protect weather-sensitive building materials and simplify loading and unloading, the design featured large sliding side doors for easy access, and many remained in service into the early 2000s.

Armstrong LUNX and the 56' Thrall Boxcar

Armstrong, operating under the LUNX reporting mark, was closely tied to the forest products and building materials industry, shipping flooring, ceiling products, and other construction-related goods throughout North America. As demand for efficient transportation of bulky yet damage-sensitive materials increased, Armstrong relied on modern rail equipment to support its distribution network. The 56' Thrall All-Door Boxcar proved especially effective for these shipments thanks to its wide side openings, which allowed forklifts easy access for loading large palletized products and packaged building materials. Its enclosed design also helped protect cargo from moisture and weather damage while moving between manufacturing facilities and customers across the continent.
